Manilva Wines
It is nicely surprising to discover the huge oenological culture that Manilva has, where almost all families have vineyards and produce their own wine in a traditional way. They are excellent sweet and semi-sweet wines, obtained from the Alejandria Muscatel grape, after several days on the dryers. Dry wines are normally made from other varieties different to Alejandria Muscatel, called Vidueño. Anyone visiting the town will be able to see the signs everywhere advertising the businesses that sell Manilva wine; at any bar you would be able to enjoy the wine from this region. Also, the local producers are invited annually to participate in a contest to choose the best wine produced in the region. Hence, it is even more surprising to discover that up to the start of this project, there wasn´t any winery legally registered, nor we could buy any wine produced in Manilva backed up by an official labeling. It is incredible to believe and even more difficult to explain this lack of corporative organization in an area that has a deep wine tradition.
